Motorola Droid Turbo – Undeniably Best Battery Life

Motorola is having a great run this year with

  • Moto X (2014) – flagship phone with larger and better screen and camera
  • Moto G (2014) – budget phone with decent screen and specs
  • Moto 360 – round smart watch with good battery life (after recent update), and

the latest addition to it’s lineup is ‘Droid Turbo’ – a phone with eternal battery life. You cannot really go run with any of the above choices.

For this post let’s focus our attention on Droid Turbo that is marketed as a phone having battery life for almost 2 days.

Features Details My Opinion
Processor and other Tech Details 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 with 3GB RAM It is a quad-core processor and really snappy.64-bit access is also available but will really depend on the software. It will be interesting to see if Lollipop runs on it in 64-bit mode; that probably will make this phone faster than most other phones (like Note4, Nexus 6)
Storage 32GB onboard (64GB variant is on its way) Note that it does not support expandable storage i.e. no microSD card slot
Battery 3900MAh, Non-removable Though it has non-removable battery but this is the largest battery seen in major flagship phones. Motorola claims it can last for 48 hours but with average use it was noticed to last for 30-34 hours only. Still better than most other phones in the market including iPhone 6Plus and Xperia Z3.
Screen Size and Display 5.2 inch with 2K resolution565ppi It has got gorilla glass 3 and 2k resolution. Beautiful screen with no pixels visible from naked eyes. Great viewing angles [to interfere with your privacy ;)]
Camera Back – 21MP dual LED FlashFront – 2 MP, 1080p video Back Camera can also capture 4K video if you really into that thing. Supports auto-focus, Burst mode, HDR, 4x digital zoom. It is definitely an improvement over last year version and other moto phones but 21MP does not seem to justify the quality. Found Note4 and iPhone 6Plus with better picture quality. Also there is no OIS (Optical image stabilization).
Turbo Charging 8 hours of charging in 15 minutes. Fully charged in around 45-60 mins. Turbo Charger is included
Durability Water and Scratch Resistant It has got coating guards for protection from everyday spills and said to be water resistant but not as durable as other phones like Z3 from Sony.
Connectivity
  • LTE with VoLTE
  • NFC
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-fi a/b/g/n/ac
VoLTE is voice over LTE; in simple English it means that your regular calls go over LTE that leads to better clarity. Also it allows for simultaneous data and voice.
Android Experience Android 4.4 KitKat+ Moto Voice, Actions, Assist, Moto Display and Moto Migrate Droid Turbo runs near stock Android with apps that run over it. This does not ruin your vanilla android experience. Also it should be upgraded to Android 5.0 before end of 2014.
Speaker One Front Facing Speaker No dual speakers like in Moto X
Colors Available in Red and Black Back covers non-replaceable unlike Moto X. Red variant is indeed eye-catching.
Carrier Availability Verizon ONLY

Nano-sim

Probably the biggest drawback. Also it suggests that it is only CDMA and not a world / global phone.
